The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has swiftly responded to a potential fire disaster at Guaraka, along Kaduna road, by deploying tactical teams to the scene. This move was made after a petroleum tanker conveying Petroleum Motor Spirit (PMS) fell off the road.
This was contained in a press statement from CSC Babawale Afolabi, the Public Relations Officer, National Headquarters, Abuja on Saturday.
According to the NSCDC, the swift response is in line with the Corps’ mandate to mitigate against disasters, rescue victims during emergencies, and distribute relief materials to displaced persons. The team, led by the DCG Operations, Philip Ayuba, collaborated with the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) officers to prevent unnecessary traffic jams and ensure crowd control and overall security of the environment.
The NSCDC CG, Dr. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, represented by CSC Babawale Afolabi, urged drivers to exercise maximum caution when driving, especially when transporting hazardous materials like petroleum products. Audi emphasized that the Corps is proactively alert to prevent further disasters arising from such incidents.
The NSCDC has reassured the public of adequate security and safety around the terrain, noting that a high level of vigilance and preparedness would continue to be maintained by the Corps to ensure the safety and security of lives and property of citizens.
The incident highlights the importance of emergency preparedness and response, and the NSCDC’s commitment to protecting lives and property. With the situation currently under control, the Corps has demonstrated its ability to respond swiftly and effectively to potential disasters.
