Oluremi Tinubu empowers 500 Kogi women, harps on women’s role in economic devt

Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has extended support to 500 women across Kogi State’s 21 local government areas through an empowerment initiative aimed at strengthening their economic prospects.

During the distribution event at Muhammadu Buhari Square in Lokoja, Mrs. Tinubu, represented by Kogi State First Lady and Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) Coordinator, Hajia Sefinat Usman Ododo, emphasized the crucial role women play in national development.

She explained that the initiative is a key component of the Renewed Hope Initiative, reinforcing the administration’s commitment to fostering economic growth, inclusivity, and sustainability, particularly for women.

According to a statement from the Kogi State First Lady’s media office, Mrs. Tinubu revealed that the programme is set to benefit 18,500 women across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones, beginning with the North Central region.

“Women empowerment is central to achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly goals 5 and 8, which focus on gender equality and economic growth,” she stated.

The initiative, facilitated by the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on SDGs in collaboration with RHI, provided the beneficiaries with essential business tools such as deep-chest freezers, maxi gas cookers with ovens, generators, and industrial grinding machines to help expand their businesses.

Mrs. Tinubu urged the women to make the most of the support provided, encouraging them to use the equipment effectively to become self-reliant and contribute to the country’s economic advancement.
