Akpabio wins Senators’ confidence vote

*Over running battle with Sen Natasha

The Nigerian Senate has passed a vote of confidence in Senate President Godswill Akpabio, endorsing his leadership style. This resolution comes after a review of the controversy surrounding a rowdy session last week.

The Senate has tasked its Committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Public Petition, chaired by Senator Neda Imasuen, to investigate the matter. The committee’s investigation is a response to a point of order raised by Senate Spokesperson Adeyemi Adaramodu, representing Ekiti South Senatorial District.

Adaramodu drew attention to the actions of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, who allegedly caused a commotion during a plenary session while protesting the sudden change of her seat without her knowledge. He noted that Akpoti-Uduaghan erred by raising her voice while protesting the rearrangement of seats in the red chamber, thereby creating a disturbance.

Adaramodu argued that Akpoti-Uduaghan’s actions created a wrong impression, which was seized upon by mainstream and social media commentators.

The Leader of the Senate moved a motion to support the Senate President’s actions, which was promptly approved. He also moved another motion to refer the matter to the Committee on Ethics and Privileges, which received massive support.
