By Pwanagba Agabus, Jos

A Non Governmental Organisation, Search for Common Ground (SFCG), has called on youths in Plateau State to promote religious tolerance and harmonious coexistence in communities, cutting across the 17 LGAs that make up the State.

Project Manager of the organisation, Mr Gaius Dachet
made the call shortly after showcasing a movie it produced to promote freedom of religion or belief, on Thursday in Jos.

He said that the move was part of its project, “Promoting and Protecting Freedom of Religion or Belief (PP-FoRB)”.

The project manger explained that the participants at the event were largely students of tertiary institutions in the state

“We organised this interactive session with these youth following the happenings in our tertiary institutions and communities in general.

“As part of this project, we produced a movie on freedom of religion and belief; these participants are here to screen the movie.

“The focus is to raise awareness and have many FoRB champions in tertiary institutions and communities.

“We expect these champions to work against religious discrimination and be proactive in terms of preventing religious violence and promoting FoRB,”he said.

Also speaking, Sheik Ghazali Adam, the Chief Imam of Jos Central Mosque, called on religious leaders to preach peace at all times.

On his part, the Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in the state, Rev. Fr. Polycarp Lubo, called on residents of the State to tolerate one another.

“People must learn to live together, irrespective of creed or tribe; let’s learn to respect everyone’s way of life”, he admonished.
