IWD 2025: Kogi First Lady celebrates women’s achievements, calls for greater opportunities

Hajia Sefinat Usman Ododo, wife of the Kogi State Governor, has praised the unwavering strength and resilience of women striving to break societal stereotypes and reshape gender narratives.

In her message marking the 2025 International Women’s Day, themed “Accelerate Action,” the First Lady highlighted the progress made while emphasizing the need for continued advocacy.

A statement from her media office on Saturday quoted Mrs. Ododo as saying: “As we celebrate International Women’s Day today, I join women and girls across Kogi State and the world to commemorate our collective progress, resilience, and determination.
“This year’s theme deeply reminds me of the need to continue to strive for a world where women and girls have equal opportunities, rights, and freedoms.”

Reaffirming her commitment to championing women’s rights, Mrs. Ododo expressed her dedication to initiatives promoting education, economic inclusion, and social justice. She also stressed the importance of amplifying efforts to combat gender-based violence.

She urged society to create an environment where women can pursue their ambitions without fear of discrimination or violence.

“Let us continue to lift each other up, to support each other’s dreams, and to demand a world that values and respects the contributions of women and girls to the development of our dear state and country.”

Mrs. Ododo noted that the 2025 IWD theme serves as a reminder that achieving gender equality requires more than promises — it demands visible action from governments and stakeholders alike.

She also applauded the women of Kogi State for their contributions to their communities, serving as role models for younger generations.

“I celebrate the unsung heroes, the women who wake up every day to make a difference in their communities, the entrepreneurs, the caregivers, and the leaders.”
