The Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) has announced plans to strengthen basic education services in Nigeria through strategic Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs), a key focus of its new operational framework.

UBEC’s Executive Secretary, Hajia Aisha Garba, has engaged in discussions with private sector stakeholders, including the Head of Oando Foundation, Tonia Uduimoh, to explore collaborative efforts in advancing education.

In a statement issued on Sunday in Abuja, UBEC’s Head of Public Relations and Protocol, Mr. David Apeh, said Garba, during a meeting with Oando Foundation, stressed the importance of fostering partnerships between the government and private sector to enhance educational outcomes.

The meeting focused on strengthening private sector involvement in delivering quality basic education, aligning with UBEC’s strategic priorities.

According to the statement, the Executive Secretary reaffirmed UBEC’s commitment to reviewing proposals from the private sector and establishing a structured platform for PPPs. The goal is to develop sustainable investment models that will drive improvements in the country’s basic education system.

Oando Foundation’s Programme Manager, Tonia Uduimoh, outlined the foundation’s contributions, including infrastructure rehabilitation and the provision of teaching and learning materials, which have significantly improved access to quality education across Nigeria.

The discussions also examined potential collaboration with the Education Cluster of the Private Sector Advisory Group for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), with a focus on leveraging innovative financing models to increase private sector investment in education.
