South-South group backs Gov. Bala Mohammed, Peter Obi’s strategic alliance, urges support

A pro-democracy group, the South-South Alliance for Prosperity (SSAP), has declared its strong support for the alliance between Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed and Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 election.

In a statement signed by its Chairman, Ebok John, the SSAP described the strategic alliance as a pivotal moment in Nigerian politics, offering a pathway to transformative leadership.

“As a coalition committed to fostering sustainable development and equitable governance in the South-South region and beyond, the SSAP recognizes the merits of this alliance. Governor Bala Mohammed, a seasoned politician with a proven track record of effective governance, and Peter Obi, a visionary leader known for his commitment to fiscal responsibility and social justice, together represent a formidable force for progress,” the statement read.

The group emphasized that the collaboration is more than a political move, calling it a “convergence of ideals that prioritizes the welfare of the Nigerian populace above all else.”

According to the SSAP, the combination of Governor Mohammed’s administrative expertise and Obi’s innovative governance approach presents a unique opportunity to drive much-needed reforms. The alliance, it said, offers a fresh alternative as Nigeria grapples with economic instability, insecurity, and widespread public discontent.

“The nation finds itself at a critical juncture, grappling with multifaceted challenges including economic instability, insecurity, and a growing disillusionment among the citizenry. This alliance provides a glimmer of hope, signaling a departure from the status quo and a commitment to a new era of leadership that is responsive, accountable, and inclusive,” the group stated.

The SSAP further highlighted the significance of the partnership in uniting political efforts across party lines, describing it as a model for national interest-driven leadership rather than partisan rivalry.

Urging Nigerians to support the alliance, the group called on political stakeholders, civil society organizations, and voters to rally behind the initiative for quality leadership.

“Moreover, this alliance resonates strongly with the aspirations of the Nigerian youth, who form a substantial segment of the electorate. Young Nigerians are increasingly seeking leaders who prioritize education, job creation, and technological advancement.
“The combined vision of Governor Mohammed and Peter Obi aligns with these aspirations, offering a roadmap for a future where opportunities abound for all Nigerians, irrespective of their background,” the statement continued.

The SSAP reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the alliance and called on Nigerians to remain engaged in the political process to ensure accountability.

“As we move forward, it is crucial that we remain vigilant and engaged, holding our leaders accountable to the promises they make. The SSAP stands ready to support this alliance and work towards a prosperous and united Nigeria.

“The SSAP calls upon all Nigerians to embrace this moment of hope and possibility, as we collectively strive for a brighter future for our beloved nation,” the statement concluded.
