Retirees don’t need connections to get benefits in Kogi- Pension commission DG

The Kogi State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to a transparent pension and gratuity payment system, assuring retirees that personal connections or lobbying are not required to receive their benefits.

Director-General of the Kogi State Pension Commission, Mariam Abedo, made this known during an exclusive discussion with the Special Adviser on Media, Ismaila Isah, who visited her office in Lokoja.

According to a statement from the Government House Media Team on Sunday, Abedo highlighted the introduction of a technology-driven payment system designed to ensure efficiency and fairness.

“Once a retiree’s documentation is complete, their payment is processed without any influence. We currently process over 200 retirees daily,” she stated.

She further noted that the commission has made significant progress in clearing pension arrears, as the state consistently provides funds to meet its obligations to retirees.

Abedo stressed that transparency and accountability have strengthened the commission’s operations, making the payment process more reliable.

She also cautioned retirees against fraudsters who falsely claim they can facilitate benefit payments, emphasizing that all entitlements are processed strictly based on merit.

Commending Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo for his dedication to pensioners’ welfare, Abedo reassured retirees that payments would continue as funds become available to the commission.
