Jubilation Galore As Edeh, Suswan Light Up BSU With Solar

A notable Philanthropist Chief Dr. Paul Edeh Esq and former Governor of Benue State, Senator Dr. Gabriel Suswam, have promptly kept their promise by installing a 60KVA Solar power for use at the entire administrative block of the prestigious Benue State University (BSU), Makurdi.

The successful installation of the huge power facility happened barely three months after the duo, at the BSU combined convocation event held in December, 2024, announced their readiness to power the institution’s administrative building.

Both Chief Dr. Edeh and Senator Dr. Suswam were conferred Honorary Doctorate Degrees during the convocation, in recognition of their outstanding contributions to the society.

Commissioning the state-of-the-art project, Benue State Governor and Visitor to the University, Revd. Fr. Dr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia, described it as a significant milestone.

He said, “The solar system will reduce dependence on unreliable power sources, ensuring that our students and staff have access to uninterrupted power for their academic and administrative needs.

“I am proud to be part of this historic moment and excited about the positive impact it will have on the future of education in Benue State.”

The Governor further lauded the selfless contributions of Senator Suswam and Chief Edeh, describing their initiative as a commendable act of service to the institution.

He reassured the university of his administration’s commitment to infrastructural development, reaffirming that education remains a top priority under his leadership.

The Vice-Chancellor of the University, Professor Tor Joe Iorapuu, whose joy knew no bound appreciated the donors for being people of integrity and notable character.

Prof. Iorapuu then spoke of the importance of collective efforts in fostering the growth of higher education in Benue State.

On his part, Chief Edeh said, “I’m honoured to give back to my alma mater—the foundation of my personal and professional journey. Partnering with His Excellency on this vital project brings me great satisfaction, as we work together to resolve the university’s electricity challenge.

“It’s a privilege to contribute meaningfully to the growth of the institution that once invested so much in me, and to help create a more enabling environment for current and future students.

“I am more than happy to compliment the efforts of His Excellency, Rev Fr Dr Hyacinth Iormem Alia as he works tirelessly to bring growth and development to our dear State.”

Also, Dist. Senator Susuwan appreciated Governor Alia for the honour bestowed upon him and Chief Edeh, reiterating the importance of prioritising education as a vehicle for sustainable development.

He commended the Governor’s unwavering dedication to transforming education in Benue State and called on all Benue indigenes-both at home and in the diaspora – to actively support the growth and expansion of Benue State University.

Both Chief Edeh and Senator Suswam have been in the habit of powering communities.

While Chief Edeh, a seasoned sports administrator and legal luminary in the past donated sub-station transformers to communities in Otukpo and beyond, the latter, a political juggernaut previously donated 100 solar-powered streetlights to illuminate BSU campus.

Besides the power sector, Chief Edeh had donated educational and vocational equipment to BSU as well as given massive scholarships to students of the institution and beyond.
