Condemnation trails killing of three fish traders in Taraba

By Celestine Ihejirika, Jalingo.

The executive chairman of Wukari Local Government Council, Hon. Agbu Samaila Dauda has condemned the recent killing of three fish traders in the area.

Reacting to the ugly incident in his council area yesterday during an interview with our correspondent in Jalingo, the council chairman pleaded for calm while urging his counterpart in Logo Local Government Council in Benue State, Hon. Clement Ungwacii Kav and his people to tow the line of peace and await security investigation to conclude its assignment.

According to him, it will be premature to arrive at a conclusion over those behind the killings of three fish traders at Arufu in Wukari local government while security investigations are still ongoing.

Hon. Samaila Dauda said despite the fact that the incident happened in his council area did not suggest that criminals in those villages are only Jukuns but cited other tribes residing in and around Wukari and its environs to include the Tivs, Fulani, Igbo, Hausa, Yoruba among several others, he stated.

The council boss further pointed out that one of the victims who narrowly escaped from the criminals according to what he gathered from his counterpart (Logo council chairman) then jumping into accusing a particular tribe was uncalled for, when the escaped victim should be assisting security to identify those responsible for the criminal acts.

He however assured that the suspects will soon be brought to book by the time security agents completed their investigation and urged the neighboring Logo Council community area to continue to live in peace with Wukari local government as both states (Benue and Taraba) have come a long way and appreciated the two governors of the states for preaching peace and unity.

Recall that Logo and Wukari council areas with predominantly Tivs and Jukuns shared a common boundary and had been together for centuries.

However the latest incident came on board a few days ago when the victims, two men and a woman were lured into a settlement in Wukari under the guise of supplying fish in a large quantity and at a discount rate, an invitation a source revealed was led to a deadly ambush, leaving a lone survivor of the attack who recounted his ordeals.
