The Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Technical, Vocational and Entrepreneurship Education (OSSAP-TVEE) has commenced activities to kick-start the nationwide upscaling of skills for Nigerians under the National Poverty Reduction with Growth Strategy (NPRGS).
The initiative is part of the Federal Government’s broader strategy to expand the skilled workforce, with a target of raising the percentage of skilled Nigerians to at least 50 percent within the next two years.
Speaking during a planning committee meeting held in Abuja, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on TVEE, Dr. Abiola Arogundade, said six states have been designated as training hubs, representing the six geopolitical zones of the country.
According to Dr. Arogundade, the selected centres are Adamawa (North East), Ondo (South West), Abuja (North Central), Kebbi (North West), Delta (South South), and Enugu (South East). Each centre will host 300 trainees and three skills, based on preferences, marketability of the skills and choices of the trainees.
The training is scheduled to run for 10 days, during which participants will undergo intensive hands-on sessions to boost their employability and entrepreneurial capacity.
“The North Central zone, comprising states in the zone, is being handled by the OSSAPTVEE and the skills for training include CyberSecurity, Solar Installation and Graphic Design,” he said adding that the 300 trainees, comprising applicants chosen from the six states of the zone, Benue, Kogi, Kwara, Nasarawa, Niger, and Plateau, as well as the Federal Capital Territory, will be trained for 10 days
