Gov. Alia inaugurates Benue State Electoral Commission

Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia has called on all well-meaning citizens of Benue State to join hands with Benue State Independent Electoral Commission, BSIEC, in ensuring the success of our democratic process to enable his administration build a future where fairness, justice, and progress reign supreme.

Governor Alia was speaking on Thursday at the inauguration ceremony of Chairman and members of the Benue State Independent Electoral Commission (BSIEC) which took place at the New Banquet hall, Government House Makurdi.

The Governor said, “each of you has been selected based on your nonpartisan stance, outstanding qualifications, integrity, and unwavering commitment to democratic principles, which are fundamental to the progress of our state and the core principles required for the survival of our thriving democracy”.

He pointed out that, “in nominating each member, we were guided by the law establishing the commission, which unequivocally demands that the chairman and members possess unquestionable integrity. This underscores the critical role that the commission plays in laying the foundation for our democracy, as the Local Government Councils and council wards serve as the primary interface between the government and the people”.

Gov.Alia then said he entrust upon the Chairman and members the responsibility of ensuring the consolidation of democracy at this vital level by conducting elections that are free, fair, and credible, accurately reflecting the will and aspirations of the people of Benue State.

“Our people deserve nothing less than a system where their voices are heard through their votes”, the Governor pointed out.

The Governor urged the Chairman and Members sworn-in to demonstrate courage and steadfastness in the face of challenges.

“I assure you that the government stands firmly behind you in this noble endeavour. I cannot overemphasize the importance of unity and resilience in overcoming obstacles; together, you can achieve great progress and prosperity for the state”.

The Governor who assured of the government commitment to upholding the independence of the Benue State Independent Electoral Commission, said “you can count on the full support of the government in the discharge of your duties. This government is dedicated to upholding the tenets of democracy and ensuring that the electoral process in Benue State is transparent, credible, and inclusive”.

“I anticipate that following your swearing-in, you will promptly embark on outlining your program of activities and devising a realistic election timetable. Your dedication to this task will be crucial in fostering a transparent electoral process that enhances public trust and confidence in our democratic institutions”, Gov. Alia said.
