Wike bags Uniport honourary doctorate degree

The University of Port Harcourt, Rivers state will on Saturday, July 26, honour the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike with a honourary doctor of science (Dsc honoris causal) for his contribution to the school and the nation.

Vice chancellor of the University, Professor Owunari Georgewill announced this in a letter presented to the Minister in Abuja, Wednesday.

He said the conferrememt will be done during the University’s 50th anniversary and 35th convocation slated for July 21 – July 27, 2025.

Georgewill said the University senate unanimously approved the conferrememt of the honourary degree on Wike because of his impact, whom he described as a most outstanding public servant.

The letter reads, “The act establishing the University empowers it to award honourary doctorate degrees to distinguished Nigerians who have contributed immensely to the growth of the nation.

“The senate had sat and look at everything, and has decided to award honourary doctorate of science, Political science on his Excellency, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory during its 35th convocation and also the 50th anniversary of the University.

“Wike is also a distinguished alumni of that University, so the senate of the institution is honouring him not only for his service to the nation, but for his service to the University of Port Harcourt.

“Your footprints are there for everybody to see in the University, we are proud to be associated with you”

Responding, Wike said he will remain grateful to the University for being outstanding and moulding people.

He said, ” University of Port Harcourt is where I cut my teeth in public life, it is where I have my first degree in Political science and return after my NYSC for a degree in law.

“The school is one of the institutions with best professors in political science, I am proud of the University and I can defend it anywhere” Wike said.
