Communications ministry, Aig-Imoukhuede Foundation move to drive Nigeria’s digital transformation

The Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy has teamed up with the Aig-Imoukhuede Foundation to drive digital transformation in Nigeria’s public sector, with a key focus on standardising the design and functionality of government websites.

At a two-day workshop held on July 18 and 19, 2025, digital experts, designers, and top public service stakeholders convened to advance the Nigeria Web Design Standards (NWDS) Project—an initiative aimed at improving user experience and streamlining digital access to government services.

The project, championed by the Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani, is part of a broader effort to modernise and unify how Nigerians engage with government services online.

“This workshop marks a crucial step in our journey to transform how citizens experience government online. By standardising the design and functionality of public sector websites, we are laying the foundation for a more accessible, inclusive, and efficient digital government. I’m grateful to the Aig-Imoukhuede Foundation for partnering with us to advance this important project,” Dr. Tijani said.

He noted that the NWDS project aligns with the Ministry’s ongoing reforms, which include initiatives such as the 3 Million Technical Talent (3MTT) programme to boost youth digital skills, as well as policies targeting broadband expansion, artificial intelligence, and digital public infrastructure.

Chairman of the Aig-Imoukhuede Foundation, Aigboje Aig-Imoukhuede, also addressed participants at the workshop, describing the initiative as a landmark move.

“The introduction of a national standard for government websites is a bold and necessary step. It says to every Nigerian, we are one government, working together to serve you better. A standardised approach will ensure our websites are not only aesthetically aligned, but also functional, accessible, and user-centric, meeting the diverse needs of Nigerians at home and abroad,” he said.

The Aig-Imoukhuede Foundation’s role in the NWDS Project is part of its broader mission to accelerate digital adoption in the public sector. The Foundation was instrumental in digitising the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, a milestone that has inspired other government institutions to embark on similar reforms.

Momentum has continued to grow through new Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) signed by the Foundation with the Federal Ministry of Justice, the Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment, and the Federal Civil Service Commission—all focused on expanding digitalisation in governance.

Both the Ministry and the Foundation reaffirmed their commitment to delivering a seamless, standardised online experience for all Nigerians accessing government services.

The AUTHORITY reports that the Aig-Imoukhuede Foundation, established by Aigboje and Ofovwe Aig-Imoukhuede, is dedicated to enhancing public service delivery and expanding access to quality healthcare across Africa. It supports reform initiatives through funding, consultancy, capacity-building, and strategic partnerships with affiliate organisations such as ABC Health, the Private Sector Health Alliance of Nigeria (PSHAN), and the Nigerian Solidarity Support Fund (NSSF).
