LP disowns nomination forms issued by Abure, cautions aspirants

The leadership of Labour Party (LP) has disowned nomination forms allegedly being distributed by former party chairman, Barr. Julius Abure, describing them as invalid and warning aspirants against obtaining forms through unauthorised channels.

In a statement issued on Sunday, the party’s National Publicity Secretary Ken Enuma, the party said only nomination forms obtained through the party’s official national secretariat in Abuja are recognised ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The statement followed the circulation of images on social media allegedly showing Abure presenting nomination forms to individuals in Abia State.

According to the party, enquiries from members, supporters and aspirants prompted the need for clarification on the authenticity of the forms.

The party maintained that Sen Nenadi Usman remains the recognised National Chairman of the Labour Party and that all legitimate nomination processes are being coordinated through the official party structure.

“Any so-called Labour Party nomination form obtained from Julius Abure or any other unauthorized source is nothing but worthless paper being peddled by political fraudsters seeking to deceive unsuspecting persons,” the statement said.

The party urged members of the public and intending aspirants to exercise caution and avoid dealing with individuals it described as unauthorised officials.

The Labour Party also questioned why the alleged sale of forms was concentrated in Abia State, suggesting political motives behind the development.

The statement reaffirmed Gov. Alex Otti as the national leader of the party and dismissed suggestions that political pressure or intimidation would alter his position.

The party further accused Abure of unlawfully presenting himself as National Chairman, warning that such actions could have legal consequences.

“Julius Abure’s continued impersonation of the office of the National Chairman of the Labour Party remains a criminal offence of serious legal consequence,” the statement added.
