2027: Maku, Abbo, others scramble for LP nomination forms

By Myke Uzendu, Abuja

The Labour Party (LP) on Wednesday witnessed increased political activity at its national secretariat in Abuja as prominent aspirants from across the country picked up nomination forms ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Ken Eluma Asogwa, in a statement on Wednesday said that the development reflects growing interest in the Labour Party as aspirants continue to jostle for various elective positions across the country.

Among those who obtained nomination forms were former Minister of Information, Labaran Maku, who is seeking the Labour Party ticket for the Nasarawa North Senatorial District, and Ishaku Abbo, who picked up forms to contest the Adamawa State governorship election.

Others include Emmanuel Ben for the Akwa Ibom governorship race; Adamu Bako Blanzou for the Akwanga North/Eggon/Wamba Federal Constituency seat; Jesse James Ayenajeh for the Toto Federal Constituency seat in Nasarawa State; and Chidiebere Darlington Anyanwu for the Ahiazu/Ezinihitte Federal Constituency seat in Imo State.

Several other aspirants were also seen at the party headquarters completing nomination processes for different offices.

Speaking with journalists shortly after receiving his nomination form, Maku commended the Labour Party leadership for what he described as a transparent nomination process.

He expressed confidence in the party’s electoral prospects, saying Nigerians had embraced the Labour Party as a credible political alternative.

“The Labour Party has won the confidence and support of Nigerians, and I am convinced that the party will emerge victorious in the next general elections,” Maku said.

He added that the party had become a household name in many states, especially in Nasarawa State and across the Nasarawa North Senatorial District.

Also speaking, Abbo praised the growing momentum of the party and commended the National Chairman of the Labour Party, Nenadi Usman, for what he described as efforts to reposition and strengthen the party.

The former senator expressed optimism that the Labour Party would perform strongly in Adamawa State and across the North-East region during the forthcoming elections.
