Kebbi State Governor, Dr Nasir Idris says he has paid N2.7 billion in tuition fees for all Kebbi State students in Nigeria and abroad in order to improve the standard of education in the State.
Idris stated this while hosting the SSA to President on Students matter, Comrade Sunday Dare who led National President of National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) , Comrade Olusola Oladejo during their courtesy visit to the Governor at the Government House, Birnin Kebbi yesterday.
The students were in the state to inaugurate the newly elected Executives of the Kebbi State National Students Association.
While addressing the visitors, Governor informed them that he had paid about N2.7 billion to pay the tuition fees of both the students studying within Nigeria and in foreign Country.
He said: ” It is only Kebbi State that offers total free education in Nigeria. We pay tuitions fees of all our pupils up to secondary and tertiary institutions. Recently,I paid N2.7 billion tuition fees for both students studying across tertiary institutions within and outside Nigeria. We offer total scholarship to our students. We are doing this to remove the stress,burden from the parents.
“Some parents could have more than three children in tertiary institutions. If the money is too much,some parents might not be able to shoulder the school fees especially this period many tertiary institutions have increased their tuition fees. That is why we are shouldering the free education, scholarship to all our students “,.
Idris disclosed that his administration have increased the feeding money to pupils across the schools from N150m to N300 million stressed that his administration has also left embargo on employment in the and employed about 5,000 teachers.
He added that his administration has rehabilitated 2,004 primary and secondary schools while over 340 new ones were constructed.
While commending the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for supporting the state ,Idris disclosed that Federal Government is constructing about 280 kilometers super highway passing Kebbi State which would benefited the state in many areas, revoked the contract of Koko-Zuru road of 87km, to pave way for the state to execute the project for quick delivery and repay the state later.
He said that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu should be commended for the introduction of students loans which have not be done in the history of country stressed that his administration are implicating President Renew Hope Agenda in the State.
The Governor however granted the requests of the NANS national President, Comrade Olusola Oladejo,who requested for buses for his union, Kebbi newly executive of the Union.
Earlier, SSA to the President on Students matter,Sunday Dare commended the state government for implementing free Education, full scholarship for students in the state,stressed that,the development of the state in the area of infrastructure facilities were unique in the state.
In his remark, National President of NANS, Comrade Olusola Oladejo applauded the State Governor, Dr Nasir Idris for the construction of four mega schools in the state which spread across the four Emirates of the state stressed that the Association has decided to honour the President and Governor Idris a national honour by the Nigeria’s Students.
