FEMD vows to mitigate flood impact in Abuja

The FCT Emergency Management Department(FEMD) promised to sustain its efforts to mitigate impact of flooding and building collapse in Abuja.

Acting Director-General of the department, Abdulrahman Mohammed stated this when he paid a courtesy call on the executive members of Nigerian Institution of Environmental Engineers, Abuja chapter.

He said his agency will partner with the agency on technical exchange, community outreach and advocacy as well as capacity building initiatives.

Mohammed pledged the agency willingness to key into programmes aimed at mitigating the impact of flooding, tackling building collapse and developing the capacity of its workforce.

In a statement issued by the head, public affairs, Nkechi Isa, urged Abuja residents to avoid issues that will serve as threat to the environment.

Earlier, the chairman of NIEE, Uche Patrick- Obikile said environmental engineers and emergency responders share a common mission to build resilient communities and minimize vulnerability to environmental hazards.

The statement reads, “Together we can explore strategies to mitigate urban flooding,promote climate change adaptation and strengthen risk management infrastructure across the FCT”.

He also received in his office members of a Non governmental Organization, Mai Jagora Peace and Development Initiative led by its Executive Director Muntasir Jibrin Mohammed.
