The Kebbi State APC National Assembly Caucus has responded to a petition by Abubakar Malami SAN, former Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice. Malami alleged that Governor Nasir Idris and other political actors in Kebbi State are involved in importing political thugs, foreign mercenaries, and clandestine arms deals.
The Caucus described the allegations as “false, unfounded, and politically motivated.” They believe Malami’s petition aims to undermine the peace and stability in Kebbi State, which has been enjoyed under Governor Idris’ leadership.
Ironically, the Caucus pointed out that Malami himself hired thugs from Sokoto, Koko, and Rara to accompany him during a recent condolence visit to Birnin Kebbi. These thugs attacked the APC State Secretariat, leading to violent clashes with APC supporters.
Kebbi State is known for its peaceful nature and culture of mutual respect. The Caucus emphasized that the state government and APC family have not been involved in clandestine activities or linked with terrorist groups.
The Governor has demonstrated great capacity and performance in the security sector, which is responsible for the peace enjoyed in the state.
“Kebbi remains one of the most peaceful states in Nigeria today, owing to deliberate investments in security, collaboration with security agencies, and the overwhelming support of our patriotic citizens,” the Caucus stated.
The Caucus urged security agencies to focus on genuine threats to national security and not be drawn into partisan theatrics. “We urge you to invite Malami to substantiate his allegations,” they added.
The Caucus reaffirmed its unwavering support for Governor Nasir Idris and the APC administration. “As elected representatives of the people of Kebbi State, we stand solidly behind Governor Nasir Idris and the APC administration,” they stated.
The Kebbi State APC National Assembly Caucus sees Malami’s petition as a smear campaign designed to distract from his concerns about the state. The Caucus stands committed to delivering good governance, strengthening democracy, and protecting the peace and dignity of Kebbi State.
