The Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Enugu State Chapter, has formally and joyfully declared its collective endorsement of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the new political platform of choice for the 17 Local Government Areas of Enugu State.
This historic decision follows the confirmation of His Excellency, Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, Governor of Enugu State, as the Leader of the APC in Enugu State by the National Chairman, Professor Antewe Yilwatda, and its affirmation by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, represented by the Vice President, Senator Kashim Shettima.
The momentous event, graced by the President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, Deputy Speaker, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu, Governors Hope Uzodimma, Ogbonna Nwifuru, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, eminent former governors, national and state party leaders, and a mammoth crowd of supporters marked a new dawn in the political history of Enugu State.
ALGON Enugu, under the leadership of its Chairman, Hon. Okey Sidney Edeh, on behalf of the 17 Local Government Chairmen, extolled Governor Mbah for his visionary leadership and courageous decision to align Enugu State with the ruling party at the center. The association described the move as legitimate, timely, and strategic, aimed at ensuring Enugu’s integration into the mainstream of national development.
According to Governor Mbah, “This decision is not whimsical; it is a collective, well-considered choice made in the best interest of our people. Today marks a defining moment in the history of our dear state.”
While expressing appreciation to the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) for past support, Governor Mbah emphasized that leadership often demands bold and sometimes difficult decisions taken in pursuit of higher principles.
Governor Mbah further commended President Tinubu for his magnanimity and developmental focus, noting that Enugu State had benefitted from federal attention in roads, education, and infrastructure even before the formal migration to the APC.
Hon. Okey Sidney Edeh reaffirmed ALGON’s absolute loyalty to Governor Mbah and the APC, assuring that the 17 Local Governments remain united behind his leadership.
“We are resolutely committed to working under the APC banner to deliver tangible dividends of democracy to our people. Governor Mbah has redefined governance through transparency, innovation, and inclusivity, and ALGON Enugu stands firmly with him,” he declared.
ALGON also applauded the State Executive Council members, lawmakers, and other political leaders who have aligned with the APC, describing their action as a courageous and unifying step toward a greater Enugu State.
