The 10th Anniversary of the Keffi Polo Tournament has come and gone, leaving behind a trail of unity and sports development in its wake. The Deputy Senate President, Jibrin Barau, has hailed the tournament as a force for national unity, saying it brings together Nigerians from all walks of life.
Speaking at the closing ceremony, Barau emphasized that the polo tournament has the potential to further develop Nigeria’s sporting potentials and unite the country. “The game is something that is bringing us together. When you look around, you’ll find a lot of people from all parts of this country, Hausa, Yoruba, Igbo, and others,” he said.
The tournament’s founder, Sen. Ahmed Wadada, has been praised for his efforts in organizing the event, which has become a brand in Nigeria. The Chairman Senate Committee on Sports, Sen. Abdul Ningi, commended Wadada for spending his personal fortune to bring about the tournament, saying it is a unifying factor that encourages youth to imbibe the spirit of sportsmanship.
The event was attended by dignitaries, including the Deputy Governor of Nasarawa State, Emmanuel Akabe, and royal fathers from within and outside the state. A newly constructed pavilion was unveiled in recognition of Flour Mills of Nigeria’s (FMN) long-standing support for Keffi Polo.
Wadada expressed his elation and fulfillment at the milestone of the tournament’s 10th anniversary, saying it is a challenge to do more to bring people together. He commended the Nasarawa State Government for its continuous support, particularly in promoting education.
The Keffi Polo Tournament has become a significant event in Nigeria’s sporting calendar, attracting visitors from across the country and beyond. As Barau said, “It has a lot of advantages,” and with continued support, it is likely to keep promoting unity and sports development in Nigeria.
