The House of Representatives has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to direct the Chief of Defence Staff to initiate a coordinated Joint Security Operation to flush out armed bandits and destroy their camps in Akko Local Government Area of Gombe State.
This motion, sponsored by Hon Usman Bello Kumo, aims to prevent further banditry attacks in the area.
Recent attacks by armed bandits on Garin Galadima, Pindiga, Garin Jaji, and Laro communities resulted in the killing of six innocent people, abduction of 20 persons, and destruction of properties. These attacks have caused widespread fear and displacement of citizens from their homes.
The House urged the President to take immediate action to safeguard lives and properties. “These attacks have caused widespread destruction of properties, displacement of citizens, loss of livelihoods, fear, and uncertainty within the communities,” the motion stated.
The House also urged the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and the Northeast Development Commission to provide relief materials to the victims of the attack in communities in Gombe State.
The Inspector General of Police has been directed to deploy Mobile Police Force Squadrons to maintain law and order and provide security in the affected communities. The House emphasized that the primary purpose of government is to protect the lives of its citizens, as stated in Section 14 (2) (8) of the Constitution.
The House mandated the Committees on Emergency and Disaster Preparedness, Defence, Army, Air Force, Police, and Legislative Compliance to ensure compliance and submit a weekly report until the insecurity is brought under control.
The House observed a one-minute silence for those who lost their lives in the attacks. The motion, highlights the need for urgent action to address the security situation in Gombe State.
This motion is part of ongoing efforts to address banditry and insecurity in various parts of Nigeria. In December 2025, President Tinubu directed the military to tackle banditry and insecurity in the country by the end of 2025.
