Violence erupted in Gwagwalada Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT),late Monday, as members of the Peoples Democratic Party and the All Progressives Congress clashed at Paiko ward of the council.
The conflict began when APC supporters visited the area for campaign and allegedly attempted to paste posters of their candidates, which PDP members in the community resisted, resulting to burning of two houses and smashing of some vehicles .
Recall that the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Area Council Election is scheduled to hold on Saturday, February 21, 2026.
Eyewitnesses who pleaded for anonymity confirmed that a house belonging to a chieftain of the ruling APC, Ibn Ja’afar was allegedly burnt.
A Facebook post by one Itz Real Jafaru, claimed that “PDP bandits/terrorists” were responsible for the attack on the APC stalwart’s residence.
The report is still sketchy as police is yet to react to the incident as of the time of writing the report.
However, some pictures sighted on the social media also showed how
fire ignited by the violence destroyed a storey building, with parts of the roof reportedly burnt, with the household items.
The incident adds to a growing list of politically linked crisis in the area, heightening concerns among residents over rising hostilities as the elections draw near.
