Ramadan: Minister doles out N200m to Goronyo LG in Sokoto

The Minister of state for Works, Mr. Bello Muhammad has doled out the sum of two hundred million (N200million) to the people of Goronyo Local Government Area in Sokoto state.

He said the initiative is to support vulnerable households and ease economic pressures as Muslims prepare for the holy month of Ramadan.

In a statement issued on Tuesday by the Special Assistant on Media to the Minister, Abdullahi Mohamed, said the support has become a consistent feature of the Minister’s outreach to his constituents, underscoring his commitment to social welfare, inclusive governance, and grassroots empowerment.

It said the support package comprised substantial cash donations and essential food items including rice, millet, sugar, guinea corn, maize, and wrappers.

The breakdown show that , the Minister disbursed ₦33 million to the Local Government and Ward Executives.
Members of the Local Government Executive received ₦100,000 each, while some executive members received ₦50,000 each.

The total amount received by the Local Government EXCO was ₦1.45 million.
Ward Chairmen across the 11 wards received ₦200,000 each, while their Secretaries received ₦100,000 each.
Ward Executive members received ₦30,000 each.

The total disbursed to Ward Executives was approximately ₦12 million.

Other beneficiaries include;
Goronyo Social Media Group – ₦2 million
Goronyo Youth Association – ₦1.5 million
Youths in each of the 11 wards – ₦500,000 per ward (₦5 million total)
APC Youth Mobilization, Goronyo – ₦1.5 million.

Eight elderly community leaders – ₦500,000 each (₦4 million total), Goronyo Students Association – ₦1 million, former Councillors of Goronyo – ₦500,000, decampees – ₦500,000, Women’s Association – ₦1.5 million

In addition to the cash support, three trailer loads of rice valued at approximately ₦90 million were distributed. Bags of sugar worth over ₦28 million were also provided, alongside large quantities of millet and wrappers.
