From Maryam Ahmadu-Suka, Kaduna
Christian faithful in Kaduna State have applauded Governor Uba Sani for restoring the state-sponsored Christian Pilgrimage Programme after an 11-year suspension, describing the move as a demonstration of fairness, equity and inclusive governance.
The commendation came during the 2025 orientation programme organised for 50 intending Christian pilgrims sponsored by the Kaduna State Government.
The exercise marks the first state-backed Christian pilgrimage in over a decade, following its discontinuation by previous administrations.
Speaking at the event, participants expressed gratitude to the governor for reviving the initiative, noting that the decision has rekindled hope among Christian communities and strengthened their sense of belonging in the state.
The Head of Service, Mrs. Jimami C. Bako, said the reintroduction of the programme reflects an administration that recognises the role of spiritual growth and moral values in societal development.
She noted that faith-based initiatives complement investments in infrastructure and economic advancement.
According to her, the revival underscores the governor’s commitment to promoting peace, mutual respect and social harmony across religious lines.
Also speaking, the Commissioner of Information, Ahmed Maiyaki, said the initiative aligns with the administration’s pledge to uphold justice, equity and inclusiveness for all residents, irrespective of religious affiliation.
He urged the intending pilgrims to use the opportunity to pray for peace, unity and sustained prosperity in Kaduna State and the country at large.
Some of the beneficiaries described the gesture as timely and reassuring, adding that it has reinforced confidence in the government’s resolve to promote religious harmony and balanced governance.
The state government had suspended sponsorship of Christian pilgrimage over a decade ago, making the current exercise the first of its kind since then.
Observers say the development is expected to further strengthen interfaith relations and deepen trust between citizens and the state government.
