Awhum Tree Killings: Hon. Umeha commiserates with victims’ families, pledges financial support

The lawmaker representing Udi/Ezeagu Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Barr. Sunday Cyriacus Umeha, has commiserated with families of the 18 persons who lost their lives in the tragic Awhum incident in Udi Local Government Area of Enugu State.

The devastating occurrence, which reportedly involved a huge tropical tree that mysteriously fell, also destroyed several properties within the community.

In a press statement signed by his Director of Media and Public Communication, Barr. Raymond Nkannebe, and made available to journalists in Enugu, Rt. Hon. Sunday Cyriacus Umeha offered prayers for the departed souls and wished those who sustained various degrees of injuries a speedy recovery.

He equally pledged financial assistance to aid the treatment of the survivors.

Part of the press statement reads,“I wish to join the families of all those who lost loved ones in the tragic incident that engulfed Awhum community in Udi Local Government Area of Enugu State.

“The mysterious circumstances of their untimeliness death, no doubt, makes processing the loss even more difficult. On behalf of Ezeagu/Udi Federal Constituency, I pray that the Almighty God will grant the departed souls eternal rest, and succor to the families and loved ones of those affected. I also wish those hospitalized from various injuries, a quick recovery”, Hon. Umeha said.

Hon. Umeha further assured that once full details of the circumstances surrounding the mysterious incident emerge, necessary steps would be taken to provide support to the affected families.

“More importantly, to the extent that the event on its face reflects the grim consequences of climate change, the incident would be escalated to the appropriate agencies of the Federal Government, particularly the National Council on Climate Change towards averting a reoccurrence elsewhere,” he Federal Lawmaker said.
