President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reaffirmed his commitment to establishing state police across Nigeria, declaring that his administration remains determined to tackle insecurity and strengthen grassroots governance.
Speaking at a breaking of Ramadan fast gathering on Monday night attended by state governors at the Aso Rock Villa in Abuja, Tinubu reiterated his earlier campaign pledge to decentralise policing.
“To those unemployed and those concerned about security, I stand on my promise — we will establish State Police to combat insecurity,” he said.
He expressed optimism that the country is emerging from difficult times. “We are out of the woods. We are out of the dark corner of uncertainty,” he declared.
Tinubu expressed gratitude to God for the opportunity to witness another holy season, noting the rare coincidence of Ramadan with the Christian period of Lent. He described the moment as one that symbolizes discipline, sacrifice, faith and perseverance.
“It is a joy and a gratefulness to be with you again this year. We must continue to bridge together, pray together and love one another — love for the community, love for our neighbours and service to humanity”, he said.
The President commended party members and supporters for their commitment and progress so far, urging unity and harmony within party ranks, especially during ongoing congresses at local and state levels. He appealed to leaders to create space for young people and expand development opportunities to the grassroots.
“The result of hard work is more work but as long as we move together and are determined to rescue this country, the best is yet to come for Nigeria”, he said, acknowledging both commendations and criticisms directed at his administration.
The President also praised acts of generosity displayed during the Ramadan period, including large-scale feeding programmes, and encouraged continued compassion and inclusion across communities.
Tinubu concluded by urging Nigerians to remain steadfast in unity and shared sacrifice, insisting that sustained collaboration between government and citizens would deliver lasting progress.
