Payroll, PAYE in focus as UniAbuja trains staff on New Tax Act 2025

The Bursary Department of the University of Abuja (UniAbuja)  has organised an in-house training workshop to equip staff with practical knowledge of the New Tax Act 2025 and its implications for payroll administration, Pay As You Earn (PAYE), and public sector financial management.

The workshop, held on Friday 27 February 2026 at the Main Campus, was attended by key administrative units and representatives of labour unions to promote transparency and understanding of statutory obligations.

Declaring the training open, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Hakeem Babatunde Fawehinmi, said the initiative is timely and aligned with ongoing national tax reforms.

He commended the Bursary Department for its proactive approach and encouraged participants to translate knowledge gained into strengthened compliance and improved financial governance across the University.

In her welcome address, the Bursar, Madam Shiva Rae Kondoun, noted that reforms affecting payroll administration, VAT, withholding tax, and risk management require cross-functional collaboration.

Lead presenter Professor Taibat Atoyebi highlighted the evolving nature of tax reform, stressing that digital transformation and changing economic realities demand continuous adaptation of fiscal systems.

Presentations were also delivered by Dr Kennedy Iwundu of ICT University, Cameroon, and Dr Fasasi A. Kazeem of the Department of Accounting, who spoke on changes in the administration of the law, and compliance with the new tax law respectively.
