The Nigerian Senate has withdrawn a motion seeking the removal of Hussaini Ishaq Magaji, the Registrar-General of the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC), just a week after it was proposed.

This latest decision was reached by the Senate Committee on Monday.

The Senate’s Finance Committee had sought Magaji’s removal for allegedly refusing to appear before it repeatedly.

However, the committee rescinded its decision on Monday after Magaji apologized and vowed to improve communication with the National Assembly.

Magaji had created a liaison office to prevent future communication breakdowns, citing this as a measure to prevent similar incidents.

The committee chairman had expressed displeasure with Magaji’s past absences, emphasizing the Senate’s oversight powers.

In response, Magaji apologized unreservedly, assuring the committee that he would take full responsibility and ensure improved cooperation.

Senators, including Diket Plang, Ned Nwoko, and Orji Uzor Kalu, pleaded for forgiveness, citing Magaji’s reputation as a respectful and dedicated Nigerian.

The committee chair put the motion to withdraw the earlier proposal to a voice vote, which was approved unanimously.

The CAC Registrar was, however, given a fresh task: to re-present the 2024 and 2025 budgets, deemed scanty by the committee, on Thursday.
