The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has intensified efforts to eliminate revenue leakages across the nation’s airports through the full enforcement of electronic payment systems.

FAAN’s Managing Director, Olubunmi Oluwaseun Kuku, disclosed this during a meeting with the House of Representatives Committee on Finance, describing the initiative as a critical step toward strengthening accountability and financial sustainability.

“This initiative is about accountability and sustainability,” Kuku said.

According to her, the authority has deployed robust mechanisms to ensure the efficient capture, processing and remittance of all revenues to the Federal Government.

The development aligns with the Federal Government’s broader fiscal reform agenda aimed at plugging financial leakages and boosting revenue generation.

While acknowledging the temporary inconvenience the policy may cause airport users, Kuku described the cashless enforcement as “strategic and long overdue.”

She noted that preparatory measures, including public sensitisation campaigns, commenced in mid-2025 to adequately prepare stakeholders for the transition.

To ease the process, FAAN has introduced four payment options: Annual E-Tags, VIP Stickers, personal bank ATM cards, and FAAN-issued Cashless Cards.

Kuku clarified that the introduction of FAAN cashless cards does not restrict users to a single payment platform.

“The fact that FAAN is introducing cashless cards does not mean it is the only mode of payment,” she said.
