The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has approved the promotion of 2,339 staff in its 2025 Senior Staff Promotion Exercise, reaffirming its commitment to career development and institutional stability.
The decision was reached at the Commission’s meeting held on Thursday, February 26, 2026 chaired by its Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan (SAN).
According to a statement by Editor-in-Chief of INEC Bulletin Mrs. Victoria Eta-Messi, the exercise cuts across multiple cadres and was conducted in line with established guidelines and extant public service rules.
At the Directorate level (GL 16–17), 45 Deputy Directors were elevated to the rank of Directors. Of these, 18 will remain in active service, while 27 are due for retirement shortly after their promotion in accordance with public service regulations.
Similarly, 91 Assistant Directors on GL 15–16 were promoted to Deputy Directors, while 82 Chief Officers on GL 14–15 advanced to the rank of Assistant Directors. The exercise also covered 2,121 intermediate officers on GL 07–13 across various departments of the Commission.
Speaking on the development, the Secretary to the Commission, Rose Oriaran-Anthony Amupitan, said the promotions underscore INEC’s resolve to reward merit, dedication and years of service.
Amupitan also pledged that the Commission would pay close attention to staff welfare, stressing that the well-being of personnel remains critical to sustaining professionalism and efficiency within the electoral body.
She noted that management would continue to create an enabling environment that motivates staff to give their best in the discharge of their duties.
The Commission congratulated the newly promoted officers and urged them to redouble their commitment to professionalism, integrity and impartial service, particularly as preparations continue toward forthcoming electoral engagements.
