The Chief of the Air Staff, Sunday Kelvin Aneke, has reinforced the Nigerian Air Force’s operational presence in the Niger Delta following a strategic visit to Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, where he commissioned major infrastructure projects and inaugurated a new training institution.

The visit formed part of the Air Chief’s ongoing nationwide tour of NAF formations and operational theatres aimed at evaluating combat readiness, enhancing personnel welfare and strengthening operational effectiveness across the country.

In a statement issued by the Director of Public Relations and Information, Ehimen Ejodame, the Nigerian Air Force said the engagement highlights its sustained commitment to deepening security coordination and civil–military cooperation in the region.

During a courtesy call on Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri, Air Marshal Aneke reaffirmed the strategic importance of the Niger Delta to Nigeria’s economic stability and national security. He assured the state government of the Air Force’s continued collaboration in protecting critical oil and gas infrastructure and maintaining peace in the region.

Governor Diri, in response, commended the Nigerian Air Force for its stabilising role and welcomed the establishment of a training institution in Yenagoa, describing it as a step that would promote capacity building and strengthen partnership between the Service and the state.

At the Headquarters of Operation DELTA SAFE, the Commander, OBF Oladipo, praised the NAF’s consistent operational support, particularly its intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance and air mobility contributions, which he said have significantly enhanced joint efforts to combat economic sabotage.

A key highlight of the visit was the inauguration of the Nigerian Air Force Institute of Administrative Management (NAFIAM), which will provide specialised training in administration, management and public relations. The CAS also commissioned the residence of the Air Officer Commanding Mobility Command and performed the groundbreaking for additional infrastructure projects within the base.

Addressing officers, airmen and airwomen during a durbar, Air Marshal Aneke described Mobility Command as the logistical engine of the Nigerian Air Force, noting that the Service’s ability to project airpower nationwide depends largely on the Command’s efficiency and professionalism. He commended personnel for their dedication and urged them to sustain high standards of discipline and operational readiness.
