The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has announced the adoption of a consensus method for the election of party executives ahead of its forthcoming congresses and national convention.
In a statement jointly issued by the party’s National Chairman, Nafi’u Bala Gombe, and Board of Trustees (BOT) Secretary, Rufus Ikanmi, the party said the decision was intended to promote unity, inclusiveness and internal cohesion among members.
The leadership also disclosed that the party’s membership register has been opened to admit new members with immediate effect.
According to the statement, the BOT and National Working Committee (NWC) invited members of the public interested in joining the party to take part in the membership registration exercise scheduled to run from Saturday, March 14, 2026, to Wednesday, March 25, 2026.
According to the statement: “New members are required to register at their respective ward offices and collect their membership cards from the Continuous Membership Registration Committee (CMRC). This exercise is strictly for new members; existing members are not required to renew their membership at this time.
“The Board of Trustees (BOT) and National Working Committee (NWC) have resolved to adopt consensus as the method for electing party executives at all levels.
“This decision is taken in accordance with the party’s constitution and the Electoral Act 2026 (as Amended), in furtherance of its commitment to promoting unity, cohesion, and inclusiveness within the party.
“The BOT/NWC believes that the consensus approach will foster greater cooperation, understanding, and collective leadership, ultimately strengthening the party’s ability to achieve its goals and objectives.”
Following the resolution, the party also released a timetable outlining activities leading to its national convention.
According to the party, ward congresses are scheduled to take place on March 19, while local government congresses will hold on March 24. State congresses are fixed for March 28.
The party’s national convention is expected to hold between April 3 and April 5, 2026.
According to the schedule, issues arising from the various congresses will be addressed within designated windows between the events, while final matters from the national convention are expected to be resolved between April 6 and April 10.
Meanwhile, the ADC leadership has distanced the party from the ongoing electronic membership mobilisation, registration and revalidation exercise reportedly being carried out by members of a coalition.
The party stressed that its constitution clearly provides procedures for membership application and urged members and stakeholders to ignore any unofficial registration process.
Adding that, “The official online registration portal will be released in due course, and further announcements will be made through official party channels.”
The BOT and NWC also expressed appreciation to party members and stakeholders for their understanding and continued support as preparations for the congresses and national convention continue.
