The Jama’atu Nasril Islam (JNI) has expressed outrage over the deadly attack on a community market in Angwan Rukuba, Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State, describing the incident as heartless and utterly condemnable.
The Islamic organisation, led by the Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, said the killing of innocent citizens in the Gari Ya Waye community market reflects a disturbing pattern of senseless violence across Plateau and other parts of Nigeria.
In a statement issued by its Secretary-General, Prof. Khalid Abubakar Aliyu, JNI said the latest attack appeared well-orchestrated, warning that it could be aimed at plunging the state into political and religious turmoil.
The group lamented that despite repeated condemnations of such killings, little has changed, questioning why authorities have failed to decisively address the persistent insecurity.
JNI stressed that human life remains sacrosanct and called for retributive justice for all victims, insisting that perpetrators must be identified and punished without bias or delay.
It urged security agencies to intensify efforts in tracking down those responsible, warning that the continued killings risk becoming a dangerous norm, particularly in northern Nigeria.
The organisation cautioned that allowing the violence to persist unchecked could lead to a breakdown of law and order, raising concerns about the implications for governance and national stability.
JNI also decried the circulation of disturbing videos showing mutilated corpses from the attack, describing them as deliberate attempts to incite further violence among communities.
While demanding a thorough investigation, the group warned against stereotyping or rushing to conclusions based on ethnic or religious sentiments before official findings are released.
It called on the Plateau State Government to act swiftly to prevent a return to the era of violent bloodshed, urging residents to reject attempts by criminal elements to exploit divisions.
JNI further appealed to the Federal Government to overhaul the nation’s security architecture, insisting that proactive and decisive measures are needed to restore public confidence.
The organisation also urged the Plateau State Government to compensate families of victims, provide full medical care for the injured, and remain vigilant against possible reprisal attacks.
It advised youths in the state to remain calm, law-abiding and avoid actions that could threaten the fragile peace, while calling on all Nigerians to promote peaceful coexistence.
JNI, however, prayed for the restoration of peace and security in Plateau and across Nigeria, seeking divine mercy for the deceased and an end to violence in the country.
