Heavy rain destroys newly completed bus terminal in Abuja

A heavy downpour has destroyed the newly completed bus and taxi terminal located in Kugbo area of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), on Tuesday.

Kugbo bus terminal constructed by Planet Project Limited is yet to start functioning, it is among the terminas constructed by the same company in Mabushi and Central District Area.

The downpour which wreaked the havoc started around 3:30pm and blew off the terminal’s roof scattering across both sides of the ever busy Abuja-Nyanya-Keffi expressway, which resulted to a traffic grilock.

Confirming the incident in a statement, Mr. Lere Olayinka, Senior Special Assistant, Public Communications and Social Media to the Minister of FCT, said the windstorm,” which occured during a heavy rainfall a few hours ago, also damaged caused a minor damage to the Nyanya pedestrian bridge and some buildings in the area.

“From preliminary reports, no one was injured, and no vehicle was damaged.

“To prevent breakdown of law and order, as well as free flow of traffic, the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, has directed that security men be deployed to the scene, while immediate action will be taken towards fixing the damages caused by the windstorm” It said.
