COVID-19: FCTA decontaminates School of Nursing, Midwifery for exams

The Federal Captial Territory Administration ,FCTA, has decontaminated FCT School of Nursing and Midwifery in preparation for the commencement of National Council of Nursing Examination Batch ‘B’.

The FCT Acting Director of Nursing Department, Grace Leo said the decontemnation followed directive from the Federal Ministry of Education that students in existing classes should resume for their final year exams.

Mrs Leo who stated this during the monitoring of the decontemnation of the school in Gwagwalada, explained that the exercise become necessary because of the Federal Government directive on resumption of schools for students in existing classes.

“The fumigation become necessary because after the COVID-19 lockdown the Federal Government has directed that final year students can resume for their examinations.

“So Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria ordered that the students midwives and students nurses who are due for their exams that supposed to be written in May this year, but was postponed due to COVID-19 should come up for the exams”

She explained that the exams which would commence on 25th of August to 29th will be for the nurses, while Midfery’s own is slated for September, 2020.

“Because of the opening, we feel that is necessary for the environment to be decontemnated to ensure that the school is safe for the students and staff ”

She said considering the effect of COVID-19 on the country and FCT, the Acting Secretary of Health and Human Services Secretariat gave the approval for the decontamination of the school to make the whole place conducive for students and teachers.

According to her, the school had put in place all the necessary guidelines for the resumption, “we have make provision for Personal Protective Equipment, proper sitting arrangement in confirmonity with the COVID-19 safety protocols” she said.

On his part, the school principal, Lakereks Kwali, said both teaching and non teaching staff are ready for the reopening, as all the safety measures are in place.
