Police arrest man, 27, over alleged murder of motorcyclist in Ogun


The Police Command in Ogun has arrested a 27-year-old suspect alleged to have killed a motorcyclist at Igbesa axis of Ado-Odo, Ota Local Government Area of the state.


In a statement made available to newsmen on Thursday in Abeokuta, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, said that the incident occurred on Wednesday at 7:00 a.m.


The command’s spokesman said that the suspect reportedly took a commercial motorcycle operated by the victim, Sunday Ogbu, 36, and attacked him in attempt to seize the bike, resulting in a violent struggle.


”A witness at the scene raised alarm, prompting police to rush to the scene.
“The victim was rescued and taken to the hospital for urgent medical attention, but was confirmed dead by the doctor on duty.


“The suspect was apprehended immediately, while the motorcycle and the knife used in the attack were recovered as exhibits.


” The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Eleweran, Abeokuta, for thorough investigation and prosecution,” Babaseyi said.
He quoted the Commissioner of Police, Ogun Command, CP Bode Ojajuni, as condemning the act and assured that justice would be served.


Ojajuni urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the police through the Ogun State Police Command emergency lines.
