Health requires not just policy but practical solutions – FCTA

The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) health services and environment Secretariat, has said practical solutions are required to solve health challenges and not just policy.

Speaking during the world health day commemoration 2026 in Abuja, on Monday, the mandate secretary health services and environment Secretariat, Dr. Adedolapo Fasawe said the administration had integrated teleconsultation into routine Primary HealthCare services.

Fasawe represented by the acting Executive Secretary FCT Primary Healthcare Board, Ruqayya Wamako, said the initiative is to help reduce queues in PHCs, which will continue to partner and strengthen the FCT health sector.

In addition, Fasawe said the commitment is also reflected in the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike practical steps to improving the health and wellbeing of every resident, from emergency response systems to safer roads, maternal support through mama kits to cleaner energy initiatives.

“FCTA’s steps through Wike’s commitment reflect the administration readiness to improving the health and wellbeing of every resident, by opening of road networks across the territory.

“Health is not a privilege, it is a right. And achieving it requires not just policy, but practical solutions that reach people why they live” Fasawe said.

In his remarks, World Health Organisation regional director for Africa, Dr. Mohammed Janabi, said the region faces a complex web of challenges ; persistent diseases, emerging health threats and strained health systems, saying none of the challenge can be solved alone.

Janabi represented by the coordinator World Health Organisation (WHO), North Central zone, Dr. Asmau Zeenat, demanded that across governments, disciplines, and communities must act together.

He said the theme for the year’s World Health Organisation Day, “Together for health. Stand with science “, explained that the longer lives, effective prevention and life -saving treatments people currently value are the result of decades of scientific progress.

World Health Day is commemorated annually on 7th April to promote global health awareness and drive collective action towards improved health outcomes.
