Senate confirms Yuguda as CBN Deputy Governor, Clears Onwu for NDIC Board Chair

The Senate on Wednesday confirmed the appointment of Lamido Abubakar Yuguda as Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria. The upper chamber also confirmed Peggy Ufanima Onwu as an Independent Director on the Board of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC).

Both Yuguda and Onwu were nominated for the positions by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and presented to the Senate for approval. The motion for their confirmation was moved during plenary by Senator Adetokunbo Abiru, representing Lagos East.

In addition, the Senate approved the appointment of Amina Gamawa as commissioner representing Bauchi State in the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission. Abdulahi Muktar was also confirmed as commissioner for Kaduna State in the same commission.

Senator Augustine Akobundu of Abia Central, who stood in for Senator Musa Mustapha of Yobe East, Chairman of the Senate Committee on National Planning and Economic Affairs, moved the motion for their approval.

Following Senate procedure, Senate President Godswill Akpabio referred the confirmation process to the Committee of the Whole. The appointments were put to a voice vote and approved by senators present during Wednesday’s plenary.

After the confirmation, Akpabio advised the new appointees on the importance of their offices. He stressed the need for them to live up to expectations and discharge their duties with diligence.
