Troops raid criminal hideout in Enugu, recover explosives, arrest three

Troops of Operation EASTERN SANITY II have busted a suspected criminal hideout in Oji River Local Government Area of Enugu State, recovering explosive materials and arresting three suspects in a renewed crackdown on criminal activities in the South East.

The operation, which was carried out in the early hours of Friday, followed credible intelligence on the activities of suspected cultists and criminal elements allegedly operating from a residence in Achi Town.

Military sources said troops deployed at Oji River, working in collaboration with Keystone personnel from the local government area, conducted the raid at about 4:30 a.m. on May 23, 2026.

During the operation, security operatives recovered eight motorcycles and two buckets of locally made gunpowder suspected to be used for criminal purposes.

Three suspects were arrested during the raid and identified as Ozor Benjamin, 85, from Isikwe Achi; Miracle Eze, 26; and Ogechukwu Okorie, 29, both from Umuoka Achi in Oji River Local Government Area of Enugu State.

The arrested suspects and recovered exhibits have been handed over to relevant authorities in Oji River for further investigation and possible prosecution.

The latest operation is part of ongoing offensives under Operation EASTERN SANITY II aimed at dismantling criminal networks and restoring peace across the South East.

Security agencies reaffirmed their commitment to sustaining pressure on criminal elements while urging members of the public to continue providing timely and credible information to support ongoing operations.
