Troops of the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army (NA), under Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), have neutralised two suspected armed bandits and recovered an AK-47 rifle during a tactical operation in Taraba State.
The operation was conducted on 24 May 2026 following credible intelligence reports of gunshots in a forested area near the “Welcome to Donga” signpost in Akate District, Donga Local Government Area. Acting on the information, the troops swiftly mobilised to the location and carried out a coordinated raid on the suspected hideout.
In a statement, Lieutenant Umar Muhammad, Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, 6 Brigade, confirmed that troops encountered the armed suspects upon arrival, resulting in a gun duel during which two of the bandits were neutralised.
Items recovered from the scene include one AK-47 rifle, two magazines, five rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, two mobile phones, and other personal effects.
The Commander, 6 Brigade Nigerian Army / Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke, Brigadier General Chukwuemeka Michael Akaliro, commended the troops for their swift response and professionalism. He urged them to sustain the operational momentum in line with the directive of the Chief of Army Staff to eliminate criminal elements across the state.
He reaffirmed the Brigade’s resolve to maintain sustained pressure on criminal networks and deny them freedom of action anywhere within Taraba State.
The Nigerian Army also assured residents of continued operations aimed at safeguarding lives and property while strengthening peace and security across the region.
