The Anambra State Government has unveiled plans to deepen its drive toward becoming a leading technology and innovation hub in Africa through the expansion of the Solution Innovation District (SID), a flagship initiative designed to foster digital transformation, entrepreneurship and job creation.
The Special Adviser to the Governor on Innovation and Business Incubation and Chief Executive Officer of SID, Ms. Chinwe Okoli, said the programme is a central component of Governor Charles Soludo’s second-term development agenda aimed at positioning the state as a major player in the global digital economy.
According to Okoli, the next phase of the initiative will focus on expanding digital infrastructure, supporting startups, strengthening innovation ecosystems, activating the SID facility and creating more technology-driven employment opportunities for young people across the state.
She noted that SID has already laid a strong foundation for digital skills development and innovation, adding that efforts are now being intensified to scale its impact and reach more beneficiaries.
Okoli disclosed that several Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) firms are preparing to establish operations in Anambra, attracted by the growing pool of digitally skilled youths trained through the state’s various innovation and technology programmes.
She explained that the firms are expected to recruit young professionals for global service delivery, customer support, software-related services and other digital economy roles, creating sustainable employment opportunities for thousands of residents.
The SID CEO said the development would not only provide jobs but also stimulate economic growth, attract investments, encourage innovation and enhance Anambra’s competitiveness in the global technology landscape.
She further revealed that preparations are underway to fully activate the new SID facility as a hub for technology companies, startups and BPO operators, while strengthening job-matching systems that connect trained youths with international employment opportunities.
Okoli expressed confidence that through strategic investments in digital skills development, stronger private-sector partnerships and effective job placement support, SID would play a critical role in reducing unemployment, empowering young people and accelerating Anambra’s emergence as a leading centre for technology and innovation in Africa.
