CEDYK flags off tree planting in Anambra

CEDYK on Saturday flagged off tree planting Initiative in a well attended ceremony that took place at Ukpor in Nnewi South LGA of Anambra State.

In his remarks, the Nnewi North LGA Coordinator of CEDYK, Mr Evans Danchimah Eberechukwu who moderated the event highlighted the importance of tree planting to the environment.

He also pointed out that CEDYK as a group is out not just for betterment of members and officials alone but to empower humanity and as well improve the environment.

In his own speech, the Duke of CEDYK in Nnewi South, Bro Iyke Uzukwu said that the group flagged off the tree planting Initiative to encourage members and everyone in the LGA and Anambra State in general to key into the initiave.

Bro Uzukwu noted that there is urgent need to encourage afforestation in Anambra State to replace the depleted tree which according to him has open up the State up for environmental degradation.

He asserted that deforestation has adversely affected the O zone layer with it’s attendance negative implications and that all hands must be on the deck to redeem the situation.

“We are flagging of this tree planting program to sensitize the populace on the need to replace the trees they are cutting down on a daily basis, without concerted efforts to encourage tree planting, the environment with soon be laid bare.

“We are also using the unique occasion of this tree planting ceremony to sensitize our members and friends, on our core mandate which is Community Empowerment, Development, Youths and Knowledge.

“We have the intention of encouraging our members to go into full scale agriculture but as it’s always said that the journey of a million miles starts with a step. This tree planting Initiative is the giant step we need to take before further steps.

“I wish to let you know that CEDYK is in partnership with Human Rights group at Anambra State and federal level, we also have media partners as well as other forward looking groups to ensure the overall wellness of our members,” he said.

He expressed satisfaction that the group has grown to over a thousand members after it was inaugurated.

In her own contribution, Anambra State Human Rights Group Coordinator, Amaka Agbakwuru commended CEDYK for the tree planting Initiative which according to her is a right step in the right direction.

Agbakwuru also expressed the readiness of her group to partner with CEDYK on issues bothering on human rights abuse.

The occasion featured distribution of Coconut seedlings to the persons in attendance and symbolic planting of a seedling.
