From Shuaibu Zubair Tatu,Birnin Kebbi

The Kebbi State Government has highlighted the remarkable achievements of the administration of His Excellency, Comrade Dr. Nasir Idris, Kauran Gwandu, in road infrastructure and other strategic development projects as the government approaches its fourth year in office.

The Honourable Commissioner for Information and Culture, Alhaji Yakubu Ahmed-BK, disclosed this during a press briefing in Birnin Kebbi, where he reviewed the administration’s performance against its campaign promises, particularly in infrastructure development.

He explained that the government had prioritised road construction, rehabilitation and expansion to address longstanding infrastructural challenges, improve connectivity and accelerate economic growth across the state.

According to the Commissioner, the administration recognises that an efficient road network is critical to Kebbi’s agricultural economy, the exploitation of solid mineral resources, the movement of goods and services, and access to healthcare and security services. He added that improved roads would reduce transportation costs, minimise vehicle wear and tear, facilitate commercial activities and strengthen economic interactions between urban centres and rural communities.

Among the major completed projects highlighted were the dualisation of the Birnin Kebbi–Ambursa Road, completion of Phases I and II of the Ultra-Modern Secretariat Complex, rehabilitation of Yauri township roads and construction of the Kebbi State Ultra-Modern Motor Park.

The administration also constructed a fuel dump at Sir Ahmadu Bello International Airport, Ambursa. According to the briefing, flight operations at the airport have resumed through NG Eagle Max Airlines, which operates five days a week, enhancing air connectivity and supporting the movement of people and business activities.

Other completed interventions include township road rehabilitation and dualisation, bridge repairs and erosion-control projects across several local government areas, including Argungu, Kalgo, Bunza, Jega, Kaoje, Shanga and Fakai. The Commissioner noted that these projects reflect the government’s commitment to improving transportation networks, enhancing public safety and opening up communities to greater economic opportunities.

The briefing also outlined several ongoing projects, including the Kamba–Kwakkwaba–Sarfu–Banizumbu Road in Dandi Local Government Area; reconstruction of the Koko–Mahuta Road, Section I; reconstruction of the GGC Mahuta–Dabai Road, Section III; and dualisation of Abdulsalam Road in Jega. Other ongoing projects include the New Governor’s Office Extension and a new lodge office building in Sokoto.

In furtherance of its infrastructure development agenda, the administration has awarded additional contracts for strategic projects, including emergency erosion-control works at the Baba Jori three-span bridge linking Bunza and Kalgo, construction of the Bagudo Eastern Bypass Road, rehabilitation of Koko township roads and rehabilitation of the Birnin Lafiya–Gulma–Nasini Road.
