The five-day leadership, peacekeeping and security training programme for Taraba Legislators, Councils Chairmen and other top-government officials has ended in Jaji, Kaduna State with participants lauding Governor Agbu Kefas’ foresight for sponsoring the all-important training summit.
Speaking with our correspondent in Jalingo Thursday, shortly on arrival, Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) Taraba State Chapter, Hon. Moses Maihankali said Governor Agbu Kefas has gotten the hidden secrets behind good governance.
Maihankali, who is also the Chairman of Kurmi Local Government Council, said the training on Peace Support, Financial Management and Leadership would significantly strengthen the capacity of participants to effectively discharge their responsibilities and contribute meaningfully to the development of Taraba State.
He described the initiative as another demonstration of the Kefas administration’s commitment to building the capacity of leaders and strengthening governance at the grassroots.
He noted that continuous training and capacity development were essential to equipping elected and appointed leaders with the knowledge, skills and strategic understanding required to deliver on their mandates.
According to him, the administration’s investment in human capital development among local government leaders would go a long way in improving service delivery and ensuring that government policies and programmes have greater impact at the grassroots.
Maihankali particularly highlighted the Peace Support component of the training, describing it as timely and relevant to the state’s peace-building efforts.
He said equipping Local Government Chairmen with practical knowledge of peace support, conflict prevention and peaceful coexistence would complement the peace initiatives of Governor Kefas and strengthen efforts to maintain stability across communities in the state.
The ALGON Chairman urged all participants to translate the knowledge and experience acquired during the training into practical action within their respective local government areas.
He stressed that the true value of the programme would be measured by the extent to which participants replicate and apply the lessons learned in their leadership responsibilities and in supporting initiatives of the present administration.
He congratulated all the participants for successfully participating in the training and urged them to continue to serve the people diligently, responsibly and with a strong sense of accountability.
The Chairman expressed optimism that the knowledge gained from the programme would translate into improved leadership, stronger grassroots governance and better service delivery across the 16 Local Government Areas of Taraba State.
