Serving Senators from Northern Nigeria under the aegis of the Northern Senators Forum (NSF) have condemned in strong terms the terrorist attack in Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State that led to the abduction of hundreds of worshippers at Kpenya Mosque last Friday.
In a statement signed by the Chairman of the Forum, Senator Abdulaziz Musa Yar’Adua, Katsina Central, the lawmakers described the attack as barbaric, cowardly and an assault on shared humanity and faith.
According to the Forum, the assailants targeted worshippers after Jumat prayers and also abducted residents from villages in Gidan-Zana and Kpenya in Dekara District of Borgu LGA.
“Targeting innocent worshippers in a mosque and defenseless rural communities is not only cowardly but an attack on our shared humanity and faith,” the statement said.
The Senators expressed concern over reports that landmines were being planted and that further abductions were being carried out to serve as bargaining chips, describing the development as deeply troubling and unacceptable.
They called on the Armed Forces, Nigeria Police Force, DSS and all relevant security agencies to intensify ongoing rescue operations and ensure the immediate and safe release of all abductees.
The Forum also urged the Federal Government to provide urgent relief, medical support and enhanced security reinforcement to affected communities in Borgu LGA and other border areas.
“The Northern Senators Forum stands in full solidarity with the people of Niger State. We reaffirm our commitment to work with the Presidency and state governments to restore peace and protect lives across Northern Nigeria,” Yar’Adua added.
