The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), in collaboration with the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and with support from the European Union, has concluded a three-day Top Management Workshop on the review of the 2019–2023 National Border Management Strategy (NBMS).

The workshop, held from September 27th to 30th, 2026 at Zuma Rock Resort, Niger State, is in preparation for the next policy cycle 2027–2031.

This was contained in a press release e-signed by the Service Public Relations Officer, DCI Akinsola Akinlabi, on October 1, 2026.

According to the statement, the workshop provided a strategic platform for NIS Top Management and partners to review progress, exchange perspectives and consider key priorities towards strengthening Nigeria’s Border Management framework.

Speaking at the workshop, the Comptroller-General of Immigration, KN Nandap, stressed the need for the next strategy to be anchored on credible migration data, effective implementation mechanisms and sustained inter-agency collaboration.

She noted that the review must provide a clear and actionable framework capable of responding to emerging border management and security challenges, while positioning Nigeria to provide leadership in integrated Border Management across Africa.

The engagement featured strategic discussions, technical sessions, group presentations, and consolidation of review outcomes, followed by an NIS Executive Management Endorsement Session to review and endorse key recommendations, prioritise interventions, consider financing options and validate the proposed strategic direction.

The Service said the workshop reinforces the commitment of NIS and its partners to sustained collaboration and continuous improvement in border management.
