Political actors in Taraba State have been urged to practice politics without bitterness but to focus on ideas, policies and competence rather than personal attacks.
The Chairman Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Tarab State Chapter, Very Rev. Father William Peter Awoshiri stated this in Jalingo during a recent interdenominational service organized by CAN to mark Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary.
Awoshiri urged leaders to work for the development of the people and the Nation while encouraging citizens to contribute their quota in that direction.
He cautioned against incitement, intimidation, misinformation and violence, urging political stakeholders to contribute to a peaceful democratic process.
In a keynote address, Rev. Lawrence Tata urged Christians to remain united in faith and purpose while calling on them to shun division dissension and acrimony.
According to him, a united church is essential to the transformation of Taraba State and urged Christians to contribute meaningfully to the development of the State and the Nation.
On his part, Governor Agbu Kefas while congratulating Taraba CAN for resolute and focused also commended Taraba Bureau for Peace and Conflict Management for its ongoing peace sensitization and awareness campaign.
Gov. Kefas represented by Speaker Taraba State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. John Kizito Bonzena, described peace as a fundamental requirement for development, noting that a stable environment was necessary for investment, economic activities, strong community and improved livelihood.
Speaking with journalists at the event, Bishop of the United Methodist Church (UMCN) in Nigeria,Emmanuel Ande, urged Nigeria not to lose hope despite the challenges facing the nation.
According to him, the nation’s anniversary provides an opportunity for Nigerians to reflect on the country’s journey since independence.
Bishop Ande urged Nigeria not to allow the country’s difficulty to demoralize their confidence in its future, stressing that citizens had a collective responsibility to promote peaceful co-existence and contribute to national development.
