Nigeria’s Ambassador to Sweden, with concurrent accreditation to Denmark, Finland and Norway, Ambassador Lola Akande, has formally begun her diplomatic mission in Denmark, with a renewed call for stronger bilateral cooperation between both countries.

Akande presented her Letters of Credence to King Frederik X of Denmark on Thursday, October 8, 2026, at Christiansborg Palace in Copenhagen, officially marking the commencement of her diplomatic responsibilities in the country.

At an audience with the Danish monarch after the ceremony, the Nigerian envoy conveyed the greetings and best wishes of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to the King, the Danish Royal Family, and the government and people of Denmark.

She used the meeting to reaffirm Nigeria’s commitment to strengthening relations with Denmark, highlighting opportunities to expand cooperation in areas of shared interest.

Akande identified climate action, peace and security, and sustainable development as key areas that could deepen engagement between the two countries.

She also commended King Frederik X for his commitment to global sustainability and climate stewardship, noting the importance of sustained international collaboration in addressing climate-related challenges.

The ambassador further expressed Nigeria’s readiness to work with the Danish government, private sector and other stakeholders to explore opportunities for broader economic and diplomatic cooperation.

Her presentation of credentials comes as Nigeria seeks to strengthen its international partnerships and expand engagement with countries whose interests align with its development priorities.

Akande is based in Stockholm, Sweden, where she serves as Nigeria’s ambassador, with concurrent accreditation to Denmark, Finland and Norway. Her diplomatic responsibilities in the four Nordic countries provide a platform for advancing Nigeria’s relations with the region.
