2027: I won’t travel round the country for campaigns — Tinubu

By Chesa Chesa

President Bola Tinubu has said he would not accompany the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council to every state and local government area during campaigns for the 2027 general elections, insisting that governance must continue alongside political activities.

Tinubu stated this on Wednesday while inaugurating the APC Presidential Campaign Council at the State House Conference Centre in Abuja.

The 2027 presidential election is scheduled for January 16, 2027.

The President said although he would make time to communicate directly with Nigerians about his administration’s achievements and development agenda, members of the campaign council should take responsibility for mobilising support across the country.

“You will excuse me from going everywhere with you. We have bills to pay,” Tinubu said.

He stressed that the responsibility of governing the country would not be suspended because of the election season, noting that Nigeria required sustained attention to its pressing national challenges.

“The responsibility of this office does not pause,” the President declared.

Tinubu urged members of the campaign council to take the administration’s policies, achievements and development priorities to Nigerians across states, local government areas, communities and wards.

He described the inauguration as more than a formal political exercise, saying it represented a renewal of the APC’s commitment to Nigerians and the responsibilities entrusted to the party as the country’s governing party.

“The APC is ready. We have not gathered merely to inaugurate a council. We have gathered to renew a covenant, a covenant with Nigerian people and the historic responsibility they have entrusted to us as Nigeria’s governing party. We promise we will not let them down,” he said.

The campaign council is chaired by Tinubu, with Vice-President Kashim Shettima and APC National Chairman Nentawe Yilwatda serving as vice-chairmen. Former Zamfara State Governor Abdulaziz Yari is the director-general, while Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma serves as secretary.

The APC had earlier announced plans to flag off its presidential campaign in Kaduna on October 24, with Port Harcourt, Rivers State, and Maiduguri, Borno State, listed among the subsequent destinations.
